We're just friends
This is another installment from my 40 Day internet and social fast! The lesson learned here is the fact that we are just friends. Have you heard that before? Someone asks you about a particular relationship and you answer with the ever vague..."oh we're just friends". Now we all know that that is a loaded statement and that it leaves the door open for so much more to be taking place behind the scenes.
So what does it mean in regard to my lessons learned? Simply this...we are just friends.
I don't mean that in a negative way but to say that for all of my friends in the social space (blog reader, twitter followers, Facebook friends, etc.) you all are and there are others in my life that need me a little more than you do.
Look at this picture...moments like these are what I live for! I love spending time with my family, hearing my kids laugh, playing Wii with my wife, listening to Moe read to me, taking the girls out on dates. All of which are best enjoyed when I unplug and focus my time on them.
Some people are so addicted to building their follower or friend base that they lose sight of those that are in their lives. There are others that are so connected to their social space buddies that they neglect the people in the same room.
There are times when it is completely appropriate, and sometimes necessary, to step away from the social circles and spend time (uninterrupted and focused) on your family, kids, spouse, friends, etc. It's OK to shut down and build dace to face time with those in your life.
Sometimes I have to look at those in my social circles and say "hey...we're just friends and my family needs me and I need them right now".
When was the last time you unplugged and reconnected with those closest to you? What are you waiting for?
